About the Talks

Key stakeholders in the Kingdom recognize the various stressors on our ecosystems, ranging from the physical environment, and changes in the global economy to the rising external pressures from international regulations and policies such as the Paris Agreement and environmental advocacy groups. While general awareness on sustainability topics have seen an uptick recently, deep understanding of the concept of sustainability and efforts required to deal with the rising stressors (to its environmental and general welfare) lags both amongst the general public and in some instances among the key stakeholders themselves.

In order to achieve the ambitious targets set forth by our government under Vision 2030, and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, large changes in operating activities must occur, both in governmental sector and businesses.

To date, efforts to address this rising concerns have been conducted in isolation by entities from both the private and public sector and has generally remained poorly communicated outside the walls of those institutions, thus creating barriers to progress.

In order to help overcome coordination challenges, build capacity and optimally reach the desired targets, deeper communication is needed to foster connections and share experiences, ideas and challenges amongst stakeholders across various sectors beyond the occasional external formal conferences.

The Saudi Sustainability Talks aim to harness current efforts towards sustainability in the Kingdom, learn from experiences and build on existing efforts to generate much needed dialogue, enhance sustainability efforts and achieve greater economic and societal benefits. Through monthly meetings, these talks will facilitate such discourse by providing a platform for diverse range of stakeholders to come together in an intimate, relaxed environment, where discussions are developed into constructive dialogues to thoughtfully discuss topics of economic, environmental and social welfare.

We believe that a deeper level of communication is required to foster connections and share experiences, ideas and challenges amongst stakeholders across various sectors beyond the occasional external formal conferences. The Saudi Sustainability talks will facilitate such exchange by bringing stakeholders together in a more intimate, relaxed environment, where discussions are developed into constructive dialogues.

To date, efforts to address this rising concerns has been conducted in isolation by entities from both the private and public sector and has generally remained un-communicated outside the walls of those institutions, in of itself creating barriers to progress. For sustainable development practices to truly reach its full potential, such barriers must be overcome.
